A Heartbreaking Brain Droppings

I still don't want to talk about it but it's all anyone wants to talk about. In the past few years I've tried to be less invested in UGA football. After all, it's only a game and there's no reason to be as angry about it as some people get. After all, I like to think I have life outside of what goes on Between the Hedges. However, I was an irate fan for 3 quarters on Saturday, disgusted by a truly horrible performance on both sides of the ball by my beloved Dawgs against a Auburn team that took advantage. Then something magical started to happen in the 4th quarter and in the span of 7 minutes UGA had changed a 20 point deficit into a 1 point lead. Then the defense bowed up and had Auburn in a 4th and 18 with precious few seconds on the clock. I stood up as the former Dawg turned Auburn QB hoisted a pass that I knew was destined for an interception and then...

Well, that's not me. Mine was a reaction of more stunned silence. I realized the team I had cheered for had just been Bluegrass Miracled. So I did what any UGA loving fan should have done. I went with some friends and my wife out to dinner and marveled about what a ridiculous thing we had just witnessed.

It's not every day that your team is part of a play that will live in the annals of history. That play will be played at every Auburn home game from here to eternity. Just like Herschel running over Bill Bates will always be played at UGA games. Just like Belue to Scott. Just like the Hobnail Boot. And like the Hobnail Boot, I'll always know I was a part of it even though it was on the other side. And I'll probably always be a little bitter for it :)

1) But Life Goes On - Unless you're an Ohio State fan. I see that Urban Meyer is calling the BCS a flawed system. This just in...everyone already knew that and they've decided to change it after this year. The fact is, I think the BCS has been right way more than it's been wrong. And if Alabama plays Florida State this year, will anyone outside of Columbus argue that it's not the two best teams? I don't think so. In fact, the only school that may have an argument is...

2) An Undefeated Baylor - Let's face it. The biggest test Baylor has left is this weekend against Oklahoma State in Stillwater. The line started Baylor -8.5 and has already climbed to double digits. I'm not 100% Baylor will win (and OK State was my pick to win the Big 12) but if they do, they'll be favored by 20 against Texas and will probably cover. Baylor is legit and was smart to lock down Art Briles for 10 years.

3) Damn Good Dawg - I've seen more love for Aaron Murray this week and rightfully so. Brian and I are big fans of Aaron and have been since his freshman year. My thoughts go to all the people that called for Hutson Mason or the people that were happy Aaron's house got egged after Carolina last year. Something tells me that they've magically crawled on the Aaron Murray bandwagon. They should've been there all along. He's been a special player and deserves all the cheers I hope he gets on senior night in Athens.

4) Colonel Reb is Crying - Well not really. In fact, the Black Bear that took Colonel Reb's place roaming the Ole Miss sideline is pretty happy with Hugh Freeze these days. But out in LaLa Land, former Ole Miss coach, Ed Orgeron has the Trojans back competing like many thought they should for the past two years. And it gives me the chance to link this video for old times sake...

SEC Power Rankings
14) Arkansas - They have a chance to pull out of the cellar with a win over the Bizarro Bulldogs this week.
13) Kentucky - Gave Vandy a fight over the weekend. That's about it so far this season.
12) Mississippi State - One word before you play Arkansas...Karma
11) Tennessee - Their run defense is one of the worst I have ever seen. How did Carolina lose to them?
10) Florida - Georgia Southern is coming to town. The Southern team from a couple of years ago could have a chance to win. That's how bad it's gotten in Gainesville.
 9) Vanderbilt - Looks like they are going to go 8-4. I don't know how much better it can get in Nashville.
 8) Ole Miss - Huge game this weekend against Missouri. Ole Miss could clinch South Carolina a trip to Atlanta. Oh, and get a big win for themselves too.
 7) LSU - Let's face it. Much like UGA, their defense has stunk against legit opponents. I think A&M is going to put up a lot of points on them too. The Dawgs beat them so they stay...
 6) Georgia - It doesn't get anymore heartbreaking than that loss. But the problem remains that the defense is bad. Like all time bad in terms of points per game.
 5) Texas A&M - The trend continues. A&M will score this weekend but they won't stop LSU because their defense is also atrocious.
 4) Missouri - A lot of people have already signed off on Carolina usurping Missouri's trip to Atlanta but the Tigers still control their own destiny.
 3) South Carolina - A cupcake before a big game against Clemson. Then, maybe Bama?
 2) Auburn - The miracle has set up a pretty large Iron Bowl in a couple of weeks. There's no doubt that Auburn impressed me against the Dawgs. I don't know if they can keep it up against the Tide though.
 1) Alabama - Not their usual self against Miss State but came out a victor. Auburn stands between them and the Dome.
