Confessions of an 0-1 Fan

Yeah, that was my Georgia Bulldog team getting beat on Saturday night. It was the same one that I picked last week to win the National Championship. Oh well, time to jump off the bridge I guess...

Thank God I'm not this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2j0FsDkUqg

No, I can't do it. Sure I was disappointed as any UGA fan was on Saturday night, but the bottom line is that we lost a non-conference game to a Top 10 team at their place when they had been told it was a must win not only for them, but for their conference. I am not obliterated by the loss.

However, I am concerned about one very specific play in the game. Aaron Murray's fumble. Aaron Murray is going to go down as one of the best statistical QB's in SEC history. He has started for 4 years and contrary to popular belief would have done so even if Zach Mettenberger hadn't gotten all touchy-feely at Flip-Flops in Valdosta. But, it does bother me that he wasn't able to secure the football on a play where he knew he was getting pressure. Seniors that have started 4 years in college don't make that mistake.

Still, I think Aaron Murray is going to have a great season.

That combined with the fact that the defense is going to improve, the receivers (even with the loss of Malcolm Mitchell) look really solid, and Todd Gurley still seems to be the beast we all knew he was point to a really good year for the Dawgs.

They only dropped to 11 in the polls after this loss (which is still a slap in the face considering the circumstances). With 11 games to go, there's still a lot of time to move back up.

I am bummed to be 0-1. As a fan, I still want to be undefeated, but history says the Dawgs will be ok if they can beat Carolina this week.

I feel better than Florida fans do and they're 1-0. You want to know why. Florida was unable to pass UGA in the polls. The reason is, they are fielding the exact same team as last year, an offense that can only rely on the running game and a solid defense.

I feel better than Vandy fans do today too. Sure, we have the same record, but they lost a SEC game in the opener on a 75 yard TD run with 90 seconds left in the game. Oh, and it was at home against a team filled with talented but unproven freshmen. Ouch.

I certainly feel better than Kansas State fans. They lost at home to a FCS (I-AA) team. Sure that team was back to back defending FCS champs, but the Wildcats were the reigning Big 12 champs. You can't lost that game. UGA never really had that hard of a time with very good Georgia Southern teams.

So don't cry UGA fans (literally) and don't go calling for Mark Richt's head. We lost. It's ok. We weren't unprepared. We didn't execute a gimme field goal that would have tied the game. Sometimes the breaks don't go your way. It's how you respond that is important. I think the team is going to respond next week. I also planning on responding in full by going to the game and being as loud as possible. Don't be one of those crybabies. Do the same.
